West of Ireland Itinerary
» Day 1: Cork to Killarney 359 kms, 223 mls
A ten minute drive from Cork city is Blarney Castle, with its famous
stone of eloquence. Visit the castle to kiss the stone before driving
southwest to the coastal town of Kinsale for an early lunch at one of
the seafood restaurants around the harbour. Continue this exceptionally
beautiful drive through Ballydehob and head out via Schull to Mizen
Head, the most southerly point of mainland Ireland. Drive to Glengarriff
and take the -Tunnel Road - to Kenmare. Drive around the Iveragh Peninsula,
better know as the 'Ring of Kerry' through Waterville, Cahirciveen,
Killorglin arriving at Killarney.
» Day 2: Killarney to Cork 322 kms, 200 mls
From Killarney either drive directly to Tralee or alternatively explore
the rugged beauty of the Dingle Peninsula. Places of interest along
the route are Inch, Dingle, and the inspiring views at Slea Head and
Camp. From Tralee, drive north towards the historic city of Limerick,
taking in the windswept coast and the world famous golf course at Ballybunion.
Head back to Cork via Tipperary and Cashel, visiting the magnificent
ruins of the Rock of Cashel. Enjoy the mountain views on the way to
Cahir and into Cork via the Knockmealdown Mountains.
