Things to See/Do in Belfast:
Belfast is located at the mouth of the River Lagan on the Antrim Coast. Most of the city as we know it today, grew from the 17th century influx of English and Scottish settlers. The port city came into its own during the Industrial revolution and led the way in terms of linen, shipbuilding and rope-making industries. Most famously, it was where Harland and Wolff built the Titanic and the historic shipyard can still be visited to this day.
Over the past century, the city experienced some tough times, especially during the Troubles. Remainders of the Troubles can still be seen on murals on the Falls Road and Shankhill Road, while the city's Europa Hotel has earned something of a reputation for being the most bombed hotel in Europe. It was targeted 27 times during the Troubles. Other popular tourist draws include the Ulster Museum, The Grand Opera House, the Linen Hall Library, the Botanical Gardens and the Odyssey Arena.

The city offers a good range of centrally located hotels but if these prove too expensive, you'll find a good range of hotels located just a few minutes from the centre of things which are easily accessible with Belfast car rental.
Day Trips from Belfast
Once you've seen everything that Belfast has to offer, head North to the Antrim Coast and enjoy the beautiful spectacle of the Giant's Causeway. The unusual geometric basalt columns are considered by many to be the Eighth Wonder of the World and are well worth a visit. From the Causeway, travel south to Sligo and spend some time exploring the home of poet W.B. Yeats. Continue driving south until you reach Connemara National Park. This park is home to thousands of protected birds, a dramatic mountainous countryside and infinite bogland, making it the perfect landscape for hiking.
