Argus Rent a Car was founded in Terenure, Dublin in 1959. The company has grown from a small family-run business to one of the world’s leading online car hire suppliers.
Argus rented out its first car fifty years ago, in a time when cars where luxuries not necessities. It’s fair to say that the company’s innovative approach to business has been key to its success story. In 1996 Argus Rent A Car became the first company of its kind in Europe to offer its services online. In 2004 Argus Rent a Car incorporated the real-time booking technology of sister company CarTrawler into its website. The technology enabled suppliers to return their cheapest fully inclusive rates for each car individually. Today, Argus Rent A Car’s booking engine stocks up to 550 of the world’s most trusted car hire suppliers and 22,000 worldwide locations so that customers can access the cheapest online car hire at destinations around the world.
Our Success Story:
- 1996: Argus Rent A Car launches Europe’s first English language rent a car website, www.argus-rentacar.com.
- 1999: argus-rentacar.com becomes Europe’s first car hire website with quotation and booking engine.
- 2000: argus-rentacar.com becomes the first European car rental web site with WAP phone interface.
- 2004: argus-rentacar.com awarded HSMAI Best Tourism Internet Strategy Award
- 2004: argus-rentacar.com becomes the first car hire provider to launch a unique “3 clicks to confirmation” booking engine offering customers fast access to cheap all-inclusive car rentals deals in Europe.
- 2005: Greg Turley, CEO and founder of argus-rentacar.com shortlisted for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year
- October 2005: argus-rentacar.com becomes the first worldwide car rental company to offer its services on the iMode phone to web interface in Europe.
- December 2005: argus-rentacar.com wins two Golden Spiders, Best Travel and Tourism website and Best E-Commerce site.
- March 2006: Argus Rent A Car wins in the Best Service Company category at the 2006 SFA annual awards ceremony.
- November 2007: argus-rentacar.com is shortlisted for Best E-Business website at Golden Spider Awards.
- February 2008: CarTrawler wins Innovation Award at Travel Technology Show, London.
- May 2008: argus-rentacar.com is nominated for “Best Car Rental Site” in the Travelmole.com awards, in recognition of its design and usability.
- September 2008: CarTrawler wins ‘Budgie Award for Innovation’ in London
